The City of Bellevue will be hosting a kickoff event for the City’s first Heartland Bike Share (B- cycle) location at the Twin Creek Trailhead near mile marker 9 (near Culver’s) along the West Papio Trail. This project was a joint effort between the City of Bellevue and the Papio-Missouri River NRD with some additional funding provided by the Bellevue Community Foundation. This kickoff event will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. at the Twin Creek Trailhead location near 36th Street and Raynor Parkway and will feature a brief ceremony and demonstrations of the B-cycle program.
In recent years, bicycle sharing has emerged as a popular trend with a positive environmental impact. As part of its Complete Streets Policy, the City of Bellevue has partnered with Heartland Bike Share for a bicycle sharing program that will help conserve our natural resources while encouraging active transportation and providing recreational opportunities to residents and visitors alike.
The Twin Creek Trailhead (commonly known as the Culver’s Trailhead) was chosen as the location for this inaugural location due to the opportunity to encourage cycling and trail usage near the convergence of the West Papio and Keystone Trails. This location is especially attractive for a bicycle sharing program due to a number of hotels, residential subdivisions, apartments and businesses located in close proximity to the trail. The City of Bellevue and the Papio-Missouri River NRD feel that the B-cycle program will help attract visitors, promote trail usage and provide a recreational opportunity for some residents that would not otherwise have a chance to do so.
The B-cycle station at this location will join three existing stations along the West Papio Trail and will extend the network eastward in Sarpy County while providing long term connections along the corridor. This B-cycle station will be open to the public immediately after installation.
