City of Bellevue to Hold Street Sign Dedication in Honor of KCMO Police Officer James Muhlbauer and his Police Service Dog Champ

Mayor Rusty Hike and the City of Bellevue will join the Bellevue Police Department and the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office for a Street Sign Dedication Ceremony in honor and remembrance of Kansas City, Missouri Police Officer and Bryan High School Graduate, James Muhlbauer and his Police Service Dog Champ!

On February 15 of this year, Kansas City, Missouri Police Officer James Muhlbauer was killed in the line of duty in KCMO when struck by a young man traveling in excessive speed. James along with his K-9 Champ and a civilian were all killed in this senseless crash. James, a native of Bellevue, Nebraska proudly served KCMO PD for over 20 years after graduating from Bryan high School in 1999.

Mayor Hike and the Bellevue City Council have voted unanimously in favor of dedicating a portion of Lillian Street, which is the street he grew up on and his parents have lived for over 30 years, as a tribute to Officer Muhlbauer and to show the community's continued support for his family and friends. The street will also be dedicated to his K-9 Champ.

The City of Bellevue invites the public to join us on Thursday, June 8 at 2 PM at the intersection of 49th and Lillian St. as Mayor Hike and the family of Officer Muhlbauer unveil the street sign in their memory. Parking will be available on Lillian St. or at Pawnee Elementary School.

The City of Bellevue would also like to thank Russ Zeeb, who is retired from the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office along with the parents and friends of Officer Muhlbauer for all their help in planning this dedication ceremony.
