City of Bellevue Starts Campaign to Encourage Residents to Help Reduce Landfill Waste

Bellevue needs your help to reduce landfill waste and keep our community beautiful for generations to come!

Want to pitch in and support a sustainable Bellevue? All it takes is being Smart with Your Cart. From your shopping cart to your curbside carts, your choices truly matter.

Check out these tips.

  1. Be a Conscious Shopper. Make an impact and save by only buying what you need. Modify purchasing habits to avoid throwaway items like single-use plastics.
  2. Make Eco-Friendly Swaps. Small changes add up! Bring your own grocery bags, combine online purchases to avoid boxes, buy used—the sky’s the limit.
  3. Recycle and Compost. Up to 75% of waste is recyclable, yet in Bellevue we recycle only 18%. Learn what can be recycled, then keep that green cart fed and happy! Use your brown cart to send lawn clippings—which account for almost 10% of the landfill—to compost. Reduce food waste by starting a home composting pile.
  4. Downsize Your Blue Cart. The City offers three landfill cart sizes and pricing options. Follow these tips so you can switch to a smaller cart size—good for your wallet and the environment!

Being Smart With Your Cart means rethinking daily habits. If we all pitch in a little, we can make a landfill of difference. Want to learn more? Visit our website for additional facts about Being Smart with Your Cart.
