The City of Bellevue is co-hosting the annual Memorial Day Ceremony this year at the Bellevue Cemetery with members of the former VFW Post 10785. The Ceremony will start at 11am at the Bellevue Cemetery which is located at 13th Ave & Franklin St. and will be highlighted by a medley of patriotic music by the Sarpy Serenaders along with many of the honorable Memorial Day Ceremony traditions.
In past years, VFW Post 10785 has conducted the ceremony, but that post ceased operations earlier this year. Bellevue Memorial Day Ceremony Coordinator Bill O’Donnell and a few other individual VFW members from the post are working with the City of Bellevue to conduct this year’s Memorial Day observance prior to the city assuming full responsibility next year.
This annual ceremony honors the men and women and their families who have courageously fought for our country throughout our history. It traditionally includes a welcoming message, laying of a wreath to acknowledging the sacrifices our fallen warriors have made, the presentation of colors complimented by the powerful patriotic music by the Sarpy Serenaders. Mr. O'Donnell will return as the MC for the Ceremony.
Thanks to the dedicated crew at the Bellevue Cemetery that has the cemetery grounds looking great in time for the Memorial Day Holiday, along with the many volunteers that placed over 1000 flags at the gravesite of our veterans on Thuerday afternoon. These efforts gave the Cemetery a honorable finishing touch as a salute for their service and sacrifices.
“Bellevue prides itself on our warm and supportive relationship with the military. Remembering those in our community who’ve served and passed on is a special thing we do for our deceased veterans – I encourage everyone take some time to honor these brave men and women this Holiday weekend,” said Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike.
