Sarpy County and the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring a Commemorative Street Dedication for Colonel Harrison Tull on Thursday, September 13th at 9:30. A brief ceremony will be held at the Eastern Nebraska Veteran's Home which is located near 40th & Capehart Road at 12505 South 40th Street in Bellevue.
Colonel Tull, a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen, lost his battle with cancer at the age of 89 in October 2009. Colonel Tull spent 27 years in the military and served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He started out in a segregated Army Air Corps in 1943 and retired from the Air Force in 1970 as commander of the 55th Electronic Intelligence Operations Squadron at Offutt. After his military retirement, he went on to a career in teaching. He was active in the Kiwanis Club of Bellevue-Offutt and supported the mission through his generous contributions to community youth programs.
There will be members of Colonel Tull's Family and fellow Tuskegee Airman in attendance as Colonel Tull is honored. This event is open to the public and a brief reception will follow at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home.
