POSITION TITLE: Ambulance Billing Account Manager
DEPARTMENT: Fire
REPORTS TO: Fire Chief

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Ambulance Billing Account Manager will be responsible for the complete medical claim billing and revenue cycle for the Bellevue Fire Department rescue calls. Organize workload to meet deadlines by processing claims in an accurate and timely manner, meeting established productivity goals. Develops, maintains and facilitates training on any necessary regulatory changes affecting the Bellevue Fire Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Audit reports submitted from rescue calls.
Code ambulance charges based on completed documentation utilizing accurate billing procedures and assigning proper CPT codes.
Utilize comprehensive practice management computer system to enter all data and to electronically submit healthcare forms to payers and clearinghouse making sure to meet all timely filing guidelines.
Investigate claim denials from third party payers to ensure accuracy by reviewing services patient received; making any coding/charging corrections.
Prepare monthly reports for audit and reporting purposes.
Print, review and mail monthly billing statements to patients.
Review appropriate payer and government web-sites and attend continuing education seminars in order to stay abreast of industry changes.
Assist patients regarding coding and billing in order to facilitate timely payment of accounts.
Develop and present training to members of Bellevue Fire Department on pertinent industry policies and topics.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.

This person must be able to understand and analyze trends in order to ensure the medical billing practices are affording the highest and best revenue results possible for the Bellevue Fire Department.
The Ambulance Billing Account Manager must be able to understand emergency medical systems and services in order to effectively communication with all members of the department including those who hold emergency medical credentials.
The ability to create an effective PowerPoint presentation and deliver training programs to a large audience is required.
This position requires a complete and thorough understanding of the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Investigation and resolution of potential concerns regarding HIPAA will be handled by the incumbent.
Keep abreast of government regulatory changes affecting the City of Bellevue.
Maintain current knowledge of federal, state and managed care payment requirements.
The Ambulance Billing Account Manager must demonstrate professionalism and the ability to work well with all levels of personnel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Certification by National Association of Ambulance Coders (NAAC) (in-process of certification is acceptable but must complete within six months of hire, after successful completion of the probationary period).
Minimum of an Associates Degree is preferred but may be substituted with equivalent and appropriate work experience.
This position must exhibit a complete and thorough understanding of Medicare and Medicaid regulations, government payer and commercial insurance regulations and a strong working experience of medical practice management software programs.
Minimum of five years experience is preferred.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office setting amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noise. This position is considered sedentary work and may require the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing.
