POSITION TITLE:
Library Shelver
REPORTS TO:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Responsible for shelving books and restoring order to books and library materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Checks in and shelves books.
Checks in and shelves newspapers and magazines.
Checks card catalog for duplicate books.
Matches card sets to new books.
Trains in audio-visual equipment.
Keeps shelves in orderly condition.
Shelf reading.
Brings in books from book return.
Performs related duties as directed or as the situation dictates.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
May work at circulation desk, under supervision of Head of Circulation, as needed.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY:
Ability to perform general clerical duties.
Must be able to work one night per week and weekends.
Must be able to deal effectively and tactfully with the public.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position involves a continuous succession of standing, carrying, walking, pulling, climbing, reaching, squatting, and bending. Dexterity and good eyesight are required to check, sort, and shelve items. Weight lifted and carried: 1-25 lbs; weight pulled on carts: 25-175 lbs.
